You, too, Should be on YouTube!

People, of all ages, are watching videos for both entertainment, and business purposes. As a small- to medium-business, you should be using this trend to your advantage by incorporating video into your marketing toolkit.

According to the YouTube blog, more than 4 billion videos are watched daily and 60 hours of new video is being uploaded to the video giant every minute. That is 10 times the number of hours being uploaded back in 2007. And ComScore reported 84 percent of the monthly U.S. internet audience viewed online video with an estimated 182 million Americans watching about 23 hours of online video in December.

YouTube has plenty to brag about as far as traffic trends. Here are a few it touts:

  • 48 hours of video are uploaded every minute, resulting in nearly 8 years of content uploaded every day.
  • More than 3 billion videos are viewed per day.
  • Users upload the equivalent of 240,000 full-length films every week.
  • More video is uploaded to YouTube in one month than the three major U.S. networks created in 60 years.
  • 70 percent of YouTube traffic comes from outside the U.S.
  • YouTube is localized in 25 countries across 43 languages.
  • YouTube’s demographic is broad: mostly consisting of 18- to 54-year-olds.
  • YouTube has 800 million unique users visit each month.

YouTube reached 1 trillion video views in 2011 (compared to 700 billion playbacks in 2010) with help from these 10 most-watched videos.

What does that mean for a small business looking to market on the video site? Three things:

  1. Done right, you can reach a very large audience
  2. The cost to produce and post videos is relatively low or free
  3. Video complements your other web marketing endeavors, and has shown to validate a company’s legitimacy.

I am working on a white paper that will cover why video is a great marketing tool. It will be available on the Seven G Media website next week. Today, I thought I would share with you one quick tip you can do to help in marketing your videos on YouTube.

When uploading your video onto YouTube (or any other video sharing site) make sure to place your Website’s URL (http://www.yourwebsite.com) in the description area. You will also want to make sure to include keywords and a good description of your product or service. I will explain how to do that in my white paper.
