YouTube Remains Go-To Platform in Monthly Video Rankings

This week, comScore released its monthly video rankings report showing about 181.9 million Americans watched 38.8 billion online content videos in April. That is a tick or two smaller than March’s results of 182.5 million people and 39.3 billion videos, and it may likely be attributed to the extra day in March.

Basically, as we would say in the Navy, it is a metric buttload of people watching a metric buttload of videos.

The top video platforms are what you would expect with YouTube ranked as the top online video content property in April with 154.6 million unique viewers, followed by Facebook with 62.7 million.

Also noted in the comScore monthly results is that 84.7 percent of the U.S. Internet audience viewed online video during the month. This could be watching a funny cat video, or it could be watching a movie on Netflix or a show on Hulu. The average video watched was 5.6 minutes.

What does all that mean to a metro-area business owner? This data, along with the increasing use of mobile, means that your customers – and I mean EVERYONE’S customers – are looking for and watching video about your product and service. If you are not offering video, your competitors are and, as a result, are in a better position to capture the attention of those prospects and earn their business.
