News about YouTube this week is that BuzzFeed and CNN are collaborating on a new YouTube channel that will target Millennials with news videos that can be later shared on the social channels (aka BuzzFeed) used by that audience.
We’re seeing more and more collaborations looking to develop a YouTube channel such as this BuzzFeed/CNN project. Also, we’re seeing more TV companies moving to the world’s largest web video platform. The Discovery channel is launching “TestTube,” which will be a YouTube channel oriented toward a young, male audience that are into science and adventure. And DreamWorks recently purchased the year-old YouTube teen network Awesomeness TV.
If you are a small business wondering what all this means to you, you may consider creating your own YouTube related to your industry (but separate from your own company channel) to build brand awareness and expertise on a subject. One person who has successfully been able to do this is Gary Vaynerchuk, whose Wine Library TV and other social posts have helped him create a wine empire over in Jersey (Really, what does anyone from Jersey know about wines?).
I could see metro businesses taking on subjects such as biking, food, food carts, beer, criminal law, or real estate. In addition to your own videos that you would create on subject, you could also build playlists of other related videos.
