Don’t Waste Marketing Opportunities

Road ID tells its story, event on the packaging

In my off time – as well as any decent sunny afternoon without looming deadlines – I enjoy getting out on my road bike for a ride in the nearby hills.

As an active roadie, I collect all sorts of biking gear. Recently, I received a gift for a Road ID, a rugged but attractive sports wristband that contains my important info in case I get into an accident during a ride (if I have fallen and can’t get up, so to speak).

When I received my order, I was so impressed with what I discovered that I wanted to share it with you as a blog post.

Sure the wristband is pretty cool and all, but that isn’t what impressed me. What excited me was the packaging.

You see, the folks at RoadID took ahttp://www.sevengmedia.com/blog Membership Renewal Letter From The Oregon Entrepreneurs Networkdvantage of the back side of the padded envelope to share “The Road ID Story.”

Too often, I see small and large businesses and organizations overlook excellent opportunities to connect with their customers and prospective customers.

One negative example was the Oregon Entrepreneurs Network, or OEN. My membership had expired and I received an invoice for renewing my membership.

First of all, don’t send an invoice to a renewing member like it’s the water bill. These are discretionary dollars and I have other options vying to receive them.

Second, as you can see in the OEN letter on the left, don’t waste a marketing opportunity. In addition to asking for their membership dollars (which they did not receive) they could have told me about some upcoming programming events, or tell me about a successful case study from their ranks.

You should be thinking of ways to share your story whether the medium is an invoice, a quote or proposal, your e-mail signature, your social media profiles, or your physical location. These are all (cheap) places where you can integrate other marketing activities.

For example, you can add a QR code embedded with an “About Us” video on your proposals and quotes, or you can add to your invoices a QR code for a short video thanking your clients for their business. It doesn’t have to be all about video. You can follow RoadID’s example and include a short story, or perhaps a recent blog post, when sending a package or a bill to your clients.

RoadID gets it. Do you?
