Today is day two in the crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo for one of 7G’s clients, Dr. Jason Nicholas, The Preventive Vet.
What is crowdfunding, you may ask? In this context, it is a web-based campaign to raise money for a project or venture through small donations from a large group of people. IndieGoGo and Kickstarter are two popular websites that offer the service.
In the case of Dr. Jason, he is seeking to raise $15,000 to publish two books he has written about pet safety – one for dog owners and one for cat owners. The books are loaded with tips and advice on keeping your pets healthy and out of veterinarian’s emergency room.
His business is called The Preventive Vet because, in his words, “I’m a veterinarian on a mission to empower all cat and dog owners with the information, resources, and advice necessary to keep cats and dogs healthy, safe, and out of the emergency room.”
Dr. Jason is offering certain perks – such as one of the books – in exchange for set donation amounts. Another example is that you can get your pet’s picture illustrated as the cover for one of the books for a donation of $3,500.
Since launching his campaign on Monday, Sept. 4, Dr. Jason has raised more than $2,300 and has had his campaign ranked higher in the writing category.
I first met Dr. Jason while working on a video project for ResiliencePDX. He had created a tip sheet on what pet owners can do to be prepared if a disaster strikes – like the recent Hurricane Isaac.
Since that first meeting in May, we’ve chatted about all sorts of ways he can improve how he is sharing his message. That included shooting and editing a handful of videos to help him with his campaign to get his books published.
As Kickstarter writes on its website, “A video is by far the best way to get a feel for the emotions, motivations, and character of a project. It’s a demonstration of effort and a good predictor of success. Projects with videos succeed at a much higher rate than those without (50% vs. 30%).”
If you have a crowdsourcing campaign and need some help producing a crowdfunding campaign video, give us a call or send us an email. We would be happy to help, whether that is just offering advice or you hiring us on the project.
In the meantime, please check out Dr. Jason’s campaign and consider making a donation. The holidays are around the corner, and one or two of these books may be perfect for the pet owners you know. Check out his Twitter feed for information about a Tweet up this coming Thursday.
